Help with Lathe headstock screw... | | Hi.. I need a little help, I just got a new wood lathe...it's a cheapy off ebay, bought it new.... here is the link.... with the specs...for reference. http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-INDUSTRIAL-4...#ht_3239wt_873
I bought this model, so i could learn on before spending more bucks, and I'm actually really pleased. I payed less than $125 including shipping, can't beat that for a starter lathe. here's my problem, I hope someone can help with....
The specs say the head stock thread is 3/4 16 TPI.... it comes with a face plate at that spec that installs fine. After I bought the lathe, I also purchased 2 Taig Chucks.. a 4 Jaw independant, and a 3 Jaw Self centering... ( always good to have on hand I figured ).. so my Chucks arrived today... both, as ordered are 3/4 16TPI from Taig.... But they do not fit the lathe??? at a glance, they appear to be the same diameter screw but the threads on the Chucks seem a bit "Finer".... I have no doubt that the Taig Chucks are indeed 3/4 16TPI....I'm sure its the lathe threads that are the issue.. so?.... am I missing something?... are there 2 types of 3/4 16TPI threads?...or more even? Is there a solution to my problem... ie..can I buy an adapter...or is my only option to have a machine shop make me an adapter?... lol.. I'm pretty sure a machine shop making me an adapter will cost me more than I paid for the lathe and the 2 Tiag Chucks combined...lol... any and all help and suggestions are greatly appreciated... maybe something i can "Jimmy" together myself?
Thanks In advance
Paul
