I need 6 inputs, but my breakout board has only 5, how?

now, I need 6 inputs for the limit switches (X++,X--,Y++,Y--,Z++,Z--), but there is only 5 inputs on my breakout board, what should I do?

To buy a second breakout board and use the second parallel port?

or may I use all these 6 limit switches to setup on the same pin, say, pin 12? It seems OK since all limit switch will trigger the E-stop. Am I correct?

thanks

Thumbs up

Lucky021,

Mach3 can share one input pin for all limits.

yeah

If they are normally closed, wire in series. Normally open, wire in parallel.
NC is preferable if you have both terminals.

I just got my first CNC machine (Zenbot 1216) and was looking at that issue as well. I know that I can setup home switches with Mach3 and these can be in common with a limit switch on each axis. Can the other 3 limit switches share one parallel port pin?

Thanks for that confirmation. My driver board also has the capability to take inputs from the limit switches (though, just one input each for the pair of ++ and -- limit switches). I was wondering if I should also try to wire in the limit switches to the driver board as well, or if providing the switch inputs to Mach3 would be better/sufficient.

If you wire the limit switches to the driver board, you might have a problem jogging back off the switch. Mach3 has an override to let you do this, but if the switch disables the driver board how are you going to move away?

Good point. I wonder then why even have the input on the driver board.

I found this wiring diagram, which was mentioned in another thread, that looks to be helpful. Maybe it will help the OP as well.
