what material you building your cnc out of?MDF?Aluminum?will you use lead screws or ball screws?
Hi all... I'm going to be building a small CNC whileI'm waiting for my "Actual Machine" to be built.... so I've been shopping ebay for complete kits... So I need to know which of these motors are better Nema 11 or Nema 23 ( or should I stay awat from both. AND do these kits include all I need eletronics wise? Thanks In advance

I'm thinking... MDF for the main structure for the most part, and I was thinking Lead screws. Hope this helpss.
Thanks

How small will your "small machine" be, and what kind of "actual machine" you are getting. Are you going to be building your actual machine? or ordering something premade.
JGRO Complete - G540, 380oz Nema23s, 1/2-10 ACME, 30"x14", Craftsman router
Joes 4x4 R&P in progress
Hi Dustin, The machine I am buying is from Zenbot... I'm in contact with Shaun there, nice guy, they are going to modify their 1624 machine to have a cut length of 48".
The machine I plan on building is smaller, it will have a work area of around 14" X 20" "6" ( need extra height for ABS Extruder option )
I may be building this with the option to install an ABS extruder unit and run it using diffrent software so it can be used as a 3D printer as well similar to a "Reprap" unit.
So I'm hoping the pkg(s) in my original post will do what I need.
Hope this helps

Definitely go with the Nema 23s then. That way your electronics for your 2 machines will be interchangeable which could be nice for troubleshooting.
Building the small unit would be much easier after you have the big machine, but should be easy enough by hand too.

I was wondering which kit you ended up buying. Did you get the Nema23 kit. I bought this same kit and had a lot of trouble getting things to work. I am new to Mach3, so configuration was difficult. I am looking for some help thouogh. I have the motors running now, but can't get them above a feed rate of 15. I have acme 10tpi on x, and 12 thpi on y&z. All are single start. I have the resolution set to 4000, and 4800, with the velecity of 15 and acceleration of 4, I don't know what the pulse numbers mean, so I left them both at 0.
This is the only way I can get things to work, If I raise the velecity and try and run at a high feed rate, the motors have no torque. I can stop them with my fingers, or if too high, then they don't even spin. If I raise the velocity to high, the I can't even use the continuous jog, only the step jog mode.
I have the board set to 25% current, (50% does the same) 1/2 microstep, fast decay (don't know what this is either).
So my question would be, it there a way to get a higher feed rate without rebuilding my machine and changing the acme rod.
Any help would be greatly appriciated.
Hey I bought one of those kits and I regret it because I had trouble trying to configure everything. I think the company got things mixed up in their translating to English. Also , I replaced three bad capacitors inside the power supply that have a reputation in the electronics world for being faulty capacitors, but replacing them fixed it. Make sure you check your output voltage from time to time to make sure they haven't gone bad and if they do go bad, then the tops of the capacitors will be bulging or bubbling. Double check to see all over the internet an accurate wiring diagram for your stepper motors,
if they're wired wrong, they won't work right. I ended up buying a driver board from easy-cnc.com and I really like it because it has on-board adjustable pots for voltage and amps , unlike that stupid gecko g540 which has to be soldered in-line which is a pain in the rear. -S. J.
