okay thank a lot jeff ....and there is an other software i need for the link between the machine tool and the PC
and for the cam software i was getting a quote from MECSOFT CORP. is it good ????
Never heard of MECSOFT, I've been using Mastercam for many, many years, For some machines, I just post the program on an USB key and load the progman on the machine from The USB key.
One has a network from the programming computer to the lathe, much easier.
You can now have Mastercam integrated in Solidworks.
Jeff
how much for mastercam ???
Software Price: Depending on the options a user chooses, Mastercam can cost anywhere between$4,000 and $40,000 per seat.
If you are doing simple machining (2.5Axis) you can get HSM Express for free. HSM Express is from Autodesk and is available for Autodesk Inventor and Solidworks.
excuse me.. i'm a beginner ....i dont know the difference between 2.5 axis and the real 3 axis........i got a 3 axis milling cnc ....
Do not "over purchase" a system for features you will never use.
The parts dictate the sophistication of software needed.
what is the difference between 2.5 and 3 axis ...an exemple please ....
The term 2.5 axis is a bit misleading. You can absolutely make 3D parts with 2.5 axis CNC.
2.5Axis: The machine can move in the X and Y at a fixed Z height only. In other words, the machine cannot be moving in the X and Y while simultaneously moving in Z. The limitation with 2.5 axis is that the software won't allow you to program surface contour features. 2.5 axis is perfectly capable of making pockets and complicated shapes, so long as the machine operates at a fixed Z height per a given X Y operation set. With 2.5 axis, the machine typically follows this procedure: Translate Z to a specific height --> Lock Z and translate X and Y axes until all machining is done at specified Z height --> Translate Z to the next height --> Lock Z and translate X and Y axes until all machining is done at specified Z height --> Repeat until part is complete.
3 Axis: As the name implies, the machine can operate all 3 axes simultaneously. Features like ramps, slopes, organic curves, etc that extend in the Z can be done with 3 axis.
Mecsoft's VisualMill and VisualTurn both can plug into Solidworks, and they're a lot more economical than MasterCAM as well as operating more intuitively. Even the Standard version of VisualMill offers full 3D as well as 2.5D milling. This software works well, it comes with free telephone support, and they'll configure a free post for your machine if it's not already present in their extensive list of downloadable posts. You can check here to see if your machine is on the list: https://mecsoft.com/downloadposts/ Check out the demo, and if you like it, let me know - we offer discounts on all the Mecsoft products.

thanks mechfeeney very helpfull and i know now that really need 3 axis cam software for my production
I already get a quote from MECSOFT...... look interesting...... someone know if HSMWORKS better than the product of mecsoft corp ????
Honestly, I think you best bet is to use Autodesk Fusion 360. It's complete, free CAD & 3Axis CAM. A lot of folks are using it these days and it's not very different from SW or Inventor.

You can also use Fusion 360 for just the CAM. You can model in SW and export a STEP file then do all of your programming in Fusion 360. It's free so you should at least give it a shot.
is it expensive ???
the probleme is that i already paid for solidworks and i love it so much ....dont want to make CAD with other stuff......
SolidWorks for you CAD and free Fusion 360 for you CAM.
A friend of mine uses their VisualCAM with SW. It works pretty good.I already get a quote from MECSOFT
