Cool Kind of.....

I am in the middle of learning it myself. The GUI is good and easy to learn. But there are a lot of tricky things you need to do to get a post. You need to make all the changes in the UPG to the .SRC file and then compile it...sounds easy right? Not so much.

- The UPG will only work on posts that were created in the UPG. There is no way of telling this until you try to load it.
- When you load the supporting files for the CTL file, you can load them in the wrong order.
- The UPG has crashed on me several times and the only way I found to repair it is to uninstall it and reinstall it.

Besides that, its awesome!

You are not correct. You can make and edit the .SRC files in a word editor and then compile them using the UPG. The only thing is if your .LIB files are not in the right spot you will get errors.

After you compile the .SRC file the UPG will create a file of the same name with .LNG. You really only need the .CTL and the .LNG files to post. We keep our .CTL and .LNG files in seperate folders from the source and library files. This helps in keeping things strait.

We do all of our post editing with a text editor. There are alot of functions one cannot access thru the UPG.

One last item, be sure to download the latest MILL.SRC files. There are items that change with the SP releases that effect this file.

Hope this helps

Thanks

I guess what I was saying is that you cant use the UPG GUI to edit the .src file if it was not created in the UPG. Is that correct? I think that if you edit the text file you can compile it using the UPG, but you cant modify it. Does that sound right?

Also, I have written a bunch of posts in Surfcam and I knew the syntax pretty well (with the aide of a thick manual). Is there any documentation that you know of that helps in editing the post in a text editor?

You can create an entirely new post and then edit it in UPG. It will not work if there are any errors or files pointing to incorrect locations.

IMO there are alot of quirky (SP) things with the way CAMWorks uses its posts and the information. It could and should be made alot cleaner. My opinion only.
