    Torque Mode vs Velocity

My amps support both velocity and torque modes. Is either method perfered?
Do I need to tell the control which is being used, if so, how do I do this?

    Thanks
    Jeremy

I've done five machines to Camsoft now and always used Torque mode. All Galil (Camsoft) knows about the drive is the correct P I D settings. You really have to read the drive's manual for more set up info.

From what <little> I know, velocity mode is often used on servo spindles.

Most of the velocity mode servo systems I have seen were on machines that needed to move very slow and smooth. Mostly wire and sinker EDMs.

    Edit:
Newer all digital systems get the smooth motion by using encoders with very high count resolutions. Either way good analog tach or high resolution encoder is expensive.

I have always used mine in the torque mode, Galil also recommend this.
