    Coming along??

Okay, we've got a machine and computer plugged into each other. I got a couple questions to get started.

can I invert the logic the galil sees from the ICM2900 regarding limit switches and e-stop? inputio.fil in setup? will this work, doesn't seem to...

can I somehow use the 1024 encoders and get better resolution as I've read (Diff. quad 1024 per rev, 8 wires, etc.) ?

I haven't got a motor to move yet - any hints? (amps work fine. I tried the test mode and the motors turned) AMC amps have happy green lights.

    Thanks,

When I try a test move from the Maint. screens I get "tolerance too small" - It does not give a clue as to where to set the tolerance.

Which Galil software should I have? I've installed the card as instructed but is there any applications you've supplied from Galil to use?

There is a Galil command CN, but this only inverts Limit, home and latch inputs, not general inputs.
1024p/rev encoders will give you 4096 pulse resolution/rev.

its pretty standard to put the line
    COMMAND CN 1,1
in startup.fil to invert home and limit switches. I see CN also has an option to invert the first four (latch) inputs as Al said. haven't played with that. You can also invert the inputs on your contec card by using a - in front of the card option type on the setup screen.

Not sure i understand the question. You have to hook up an encoder. Camsoft has a really great page showing all the encoder, servo amp, and servo hookup. 1024 should work fine.

If Camsoft tech. doesn't get you going quickly, take a look at buying the galil WSDK servo tuning software. It costs $200. takes the pain out of servo setup.

Hey, thanks for all the help!

    Here's one for Camsoft...

When I go to the Visual Process Editor to deal with the limit switches I noticed the statements are all "remmed" out with an apostrophe after the exclamation mark.
When I click the "edit" box at the top and remove it, then hit "enter" the string is truncated and only says "!If #6 THEN" and everything on the line following this is gone!

I imagine this only deals with the "lights" on the Camsoft main screen - but ???

    Apostrophe is a "rem", yes?

    nelZ,

To only see the logic on the left side of the THEN would be what you're suppose to see when using the Visual Process editor.

You would see the complete line of logic if you used one of the other alternative logic editors.

There are 3 logic editors available to you.

The Visual Process editor, The text based Editor found on the button underneath the Visual Process editor and the CamSoft Editor found on the extra installation CD along with the Study Guide.

The Visual Process editor shows a Graphical flow chart with pictures and ICONs of the logic and math used. Look closer at the small graphical symbols next to the IF THEN on the left side. You should notice a square box with a plus sign in it next to the IF THEN statement. This is a graphical branch that if "clicked on" shows the hidden logic statements that come after the THEN. The screen will shift and expand outward to expose the reminder of the logic in a hierarchy vertical list with further small icons next to each statement.

None of us here use the Visual Processor, because it spreads the code out all over the screen with pictures and shows a tree like branching flow display. Some beginners like this because they are used to using this type for PLC logic, but the text based editors are fast, easier to read and show literally "What you see is what you get" logic in simple, clean text.

Yes the Apostrophe is a "rem" or remark. Anything written on the right side of it is ignored.
