best cpu processor

I'm replacing a computer on my Camsoft CNC mill...

I'm shopping ebay for a refurbished unit because the new computers now come with Vista and that's no good. To narrow my search, I'm wondering which processor and speed I should select.

I'm almost certain Camsoft is a 32 bit application so the 64 bit processors won't help. Correct?

I also run only one application (Camsoft) on my CNC mill so I'm also thinking maybe the dual core units won't benefit either. Correct?

I'm thinking that leaves the P4 as the best unit. probably a 3 GHZ speed.

This box is a 2GHZ P4. I downloaded the Camsoft cpu speed test
http://www.cnccontrols.com/download.asp
cpuspeed.zip

I got a score of 1,8xx,xxx (selection 2) with a lot of drivers and virus and other garbage running. This is considered a marginal score.

Anybody have input here? I'd be real interested if somebody with a dual core CPU gets a real high score on Camsoft's speed test.

Karl

Go to "newegg" on the internet and check them out, stay off of ebay, they are waiting for you ! I just restuffed my mach puter with new stuff for less than $250 delivered to my door, new stuff, not someones burnouts !

I"d contact CAMSOFT and find out their CPU recommendation.

I"ve had cases with my camshaft software where stuff runs on one M/b and not another due to hardware and/or IC issues. Unless you're willing to test the computer or luck into one that someone else has used and can vouch for, it could be a hot in the dark.

Oh, and when/if you do find something, buy several. This Vista crap is going to be nothing but pervasive.
