Just made 10 minature maple baseball bats yesterday on our 10 spindle CNC carving machine. 20 inches in length. Used the bats to make a kids drawing/craft table. Christmas gift for a friend of my boss. The bats are the legs. I cut a 90 dregree wedge to the Z centerline from the top 4 inches of the bats so the maple rails of the table could be supported and to hide the end grain of a but joint. As you look at the table, the corners disappear into the bats and you have 270 degrees of bat showing. The rails have baseballs engraved on them. I also engraved the kids names on either end of the table in the side rails. Will take photos and post them tomorrow. If we do not get snow otherwise will post on Satruday.

Finished off with a melamine top and 60 pound torsion hinges so they don't pinch their little fingers! Safety first!

I guess you could use the entire table and knock some sense into those guys!

Jim, thanks for the link. Great Forum!

    Happy New Year

    Happy New Year to All

i have been a self employed woodworker all my working life (owned a bar or two in between) i swore for many years i would never own a cnc machine!! all i saw was massive iron that looked more like a tank in iraq than a tool with endless capability.

in my work i have reached most if not all goals i set for my self, i have been blessed to have been asked to build woodwork from bird houses to federal courthouses, had my work featured and admired ( or at least they put on a good act!!)

    But this year

i was eating lunch and saw a carvewright comercial, bought one! realized real quick it was limited but it did what it was supposed to do!, met Bill Glenn and his fellows at CAMaster who built me one of the finest CNC tools i own, met Tony Mac in atlanta, who for some strange reason asked me to sit and share a meal with him and exposed me to software that would change everything and add a profitable component to my business as well !!

to all of you at Vectric, CAMaster and this forum i thank you, it truley has been one of life's best working experience's i could have ever asked for and the funny thing is

i swore i would never do it!!

Happy New Year and thanks again

    Belt Drive to Gear Drive

Just finished my transition to a gear drive on my A axis... (indexer, lathe, 4th axis rotary, choose whichever you are comfortable or familiar with.)

New resolution for A axis is dialed in to my Wincnc.ini files and I am ready to run. Broke 2 belts on 2 different programs.

Torque from the spindle puts to much tension on the belts when the side of the bit encounters end grain during certain milling operations. The gear system and compensation idler on this setup alleviates the problem of broken belts. Should too much torque arise now, the spring will let the drive gear pop away from the gear on the headstock. It will cause a missed step or two, but that is about it. More then enough time to stop the machine and correct the problem.

Not nearly as bad as when a belt breaks and the part starts free spinning because the bit is turning at 15K!!!

The first time was a "Depends moment!" The second time, I ordered my gear system and went to work with the aluminum!

I even put brass inserts in to keep the aluminum from wearing. The inserts can be replaced if needed.

More photos in my album at CAMheads.org

    Camaster really a Warthog

Hey Jim (cabnet636), I would like to know why you are saying that you bought a camaster from Bill Glenn when in fact it was a Warthog. By your own pics that you have posted you can clearly see that the machine was a Warthog and you guys took the logo off the machine and replaced it with camaster logo, then telling everybody it was a camaster and even as going as far as showing other pics of the Warthog machines to promote your camaster brand.

Also Bill didnt buy the camaster name until much later...

    Thanks,

    Warthog Not a Camaster

Jim, I find it interesting that you decided to change the name because somebody simply worked on your machine (sounds unusual). If I put a Ford emblem on a Chevy it doesnt make it a Ford; it's still a Chevy.

That's where all the confusion is coming from on these forums. You have placed videos, as well as pictures, of the Warthog machine cutting out these parts for the videos and then post it as a Camaster. Why not be honest and say that you cut these out on your Warthog Router?

That is deceiving those who really are looking for machines. This leads them to believe that a Camaster really did this work instead of the Warthog, which is not the case.

The TRUE Warthog is not affiliated at all with Camaster and is found only at www.warthogcnc.net
