    vacuum or gravity

    Nice work!

Good job prepping the blank to minimize waste.

Were you running vacuum, or was it just held in place by gravity and the blocks?

    ply held by vac?

Interesting... so the walnut is glued to the ply, and the ply is vacuumed to the table?

I'm going to be a little bit critical here.

The quality of the carving looks good, but I think I'm seeing a fairly common problem in the piece - poor grain matching.

There appears to be a sudden change of colour half way across the carving. That can usually be avoided by rearranging the stock, although you might have to buy some extra material to give a better choice.

To me, that attention to detail is the difference between good work and GREAT work.

thanks ron, the largest issue wa finding enough 3" solid stock to do a 4.5" thick slice model at 7% moisture content within the deadline for the marines. the second slice which i am working on now covers the most obvious streak, as i out sourced this i was kinda stuck with what i got. the color blend will even the color basically no one had any on hand and believe me we tried !
