| Stampede, Sounds like you should look into a "Webber Reference Bar". This is/was a Starrett product made of a stack of .50000" gauge blocks in a housing. It can be stood up in a vertical position or layed down for horizontal applications. I (actually the company I was employed by) had a 48" Webber bar and used it to calibrate height gauges vertically, co-ordinate measuring machine in X,Y & Z and to assure the software abiliy to accurately interpolate angular distances. Also, the Webber bar can be used to calibrate the measuring system(s) on machine tools. I just Googled "Webber Reference Bar" and it's still in their gauge block catalog section. Good but pricey investment. Dick Z
