Hello I work at a shop where we have a old presetter (1986) that we use to measure the tools for the mills. It works ok but to set the Dia. of a twin bore with in .001" is a pain in the neck. It's got a scope with 20x magiftion and it shines a light on the tool and you look at the shadow through the window to gague the tool. The image is not supper clear and if you put your hand on the "scope arm" you can see the image .001 or so. I was wondering if this is typical with presetters of this type and what are the new presetter like? Thanks! |

1986 presetter.. whats the brand? Or is it a modified comparator? There's a substantial improvement in presetters over the last 20 years. Read up on it and go check some out. Parlec, Nikken, Spironi (from Big Kaiser) are some of the big names out there right now. There are many others. Take a walk outside for awhile. You'd be amazed at the accuracies and capabilities they have now.

| I work with a "Messma Kelch" tool presetter, the trick to get the machine to show a clear image (tool profile) is to adjust the light bulb, If your machine is calibrated (it should be) then you should never have to adjust the focus, just the bulb, at least on my machine. Here is a link that shows what type of presetter I'm reffering, it also runs "Win NT" with a Kelch database. http://www.charlestonannex.com/photos/0732.jpg . |
