    Electronic Digital Mic Tolerance

I bought a Fowler 0-1 electronic digital micrometer. This is the first micrometer that I have ever owned.

I measured some ballscrew balls that had been marked from the distributor. They said .12635. I measure .12600. I have cleaned the faces thoroughly, and zeroed the unit using the same friction setting used to measure.

The mic also came with a small ball in a rubber holder to presumably use as a gauge. It measures .19650. I assume it should be .19685 or 5.000mm.

Am I missing something, or is my mic off .00035" for good?

    Should I return it?

And that's why I use my old mitutoyo standard mics. I would return it regardless if it could be calibrated, should be good righ out of the box. Not sure ifnthe digital ones have the spanner and adjustable barrel to calibrate them.

It did come with a small spanner wrench. I don't have a clue what to do with it, though.

I sent the unit back to Fowler. They repaired it or sent me a new one.....cant tell. This one reads right on the money across a range of Mitutoyo gauge blocks from .125" to 1"

Just thought I would say how things turned out.
