We have two different toolsetters at our shop (two different manufacturers) and have had a pretty significant list of issues with one of them - 2 software updates, hardware needing replaced, weeks between calls for service and return calls, accuracy and repeatability issues, and so on.

Currently, one of them is used for precision and speed - it repeats within a few microns, and correlates with another model from the same mfr also within a few microns (one of our custom tool suppliers uses one and did some checks for us for comparison.) The other, as of the latest software update last week, reports the same tool over 30 checks to within about ±0.0023" (60 microns) on the diameter, and about ±0.005" on the height (which is more consistent than it has been since we got it.)

Just wondering what sort of experience the users here have had, and hope I haven't been setting the bar too high based on the performance of our "good" one.

How close does your toolsetter seem to be?
How repeatable is it?

I'm not looking to bash any specific brand, just a little frustrated that it took since January of this year to finally get it to accurately measure a tool without the software crashing or the belt slipping, and want to make sure that a 0.0045" range on the same tool is normal - we haven't been able to use it without major problems since we got it, so we're not really sure how big of a range is normal.
