    18 cylinder

There's a real engine scaled up from it too amazingly - the Rotec.
Here is a project I started long time ago. I started drawing this engine in Solidworks. If anybody can help me with a few questions about Solidworks, I would be thankful.

I couldn't put more than one picture on the last post. I wanted to post more pictures but I can't get more than one in a post. How do I post it with the picture in the post and not a link to click on??

    figured it out!

I need help, trying to mesh the gears to get the cam shaft to move with the crankshaft. Also, how do I make it run by itself and not me moving the mouse??

Very nice work. Is that the 18 from Ageless Engines. Some day i am going to build the nine cylinder.

If you scroll down until you see the "Manage attachments" button. give it a click and another window will pop up. You can then attach about 6 pictures. They have to be small enough. If you dont get the second window, it might be getting blocked by a popup blocker.

What version of SW are you on?

There "mates" for gears (use the help function). To automate it, you have to use the automation functions (see help again). If you want, you could email me the model and I can mate the gears for you and send it back.

Here's the start of the 9cyl I did a while back... too many other projects! My plan was to fully model the 9 as a base, then redesign to suit my personal preferences. I've already designs and did a proto of my pistons which came out pretty cool.

PS, No CNC will be used for this most likely!

Yes it is the Hodgon 18 cylinder. I started it quite a few years ago, and thinking maybe I will have time to start working on it again. I wish I had bought the 9 cylinder. It would be somewhat easier to build and it would run better. This 18 cylinder from what I understand has trouble getting the fuel to the front bank of cylinders. The blower only turns crankshaft speed.

Steve, your micro V8 is stunning, really great work!

I have only just discovered this site and its fantastic. This model section is really interesting. I have just completed my first engine which was a modified Weaver compression engine. It has been modified in such a way so that it is easier to manufacture.

For my next project i would love to try and make a micro V8 like yours or something like that which runs on air. Did i read somewhere else that your plans for the micro V8 are in Model Engineering magazine?

I am having trouble finding any decent drawings on the internet, have you got any ideas where i can look?

The drawings are available in Model Engine Builder Magazine, Issue #17 There is also plans for a single and 60 degree twin over at the FAME site. Florida Assn of Model Engineers.

Have you been to the HMEM website? 2000+ engine builders at that site.

Not a model, but a full size engine does this count?
