    Schillings V8

    Hi,

    I recently ordred the plans for the Schillings V8 through the German website www.vth.de (ok I cheated, I had a friend in Germany arrange it for me )

    Has anyone built one of these engines before? I haven't seen the plans, just a few photo's on the net of the engine, and wondering if there are any particular pitfals with this engine that others may have already dealt with.

    I plan to machine it entirely from solid, using my cnc'd Sieg X3 mill, and a manual lathe.

    That is a nice looking engine. You might ask this on the BAEM club sites.

    Off topic, hi Pat i allso have an x3 mill but it isn't cnc yet. Did you build it youreself?
    Do you have some tips and photo's for me, and what is your opinion aubout the mill.
    On topic, very nice engine, later i allso want to build that engine, and than i can ask you about the pitfalls.

    Thanks, I will do that. I asked here cause I actually found the link to the plans site through this forum. And yes, it is definately a very nice looking engine. The version offered from vth (from their pic atleast, appear to be a little different, definately more than 2 carbs, I'm hoping it's the 4 valve per cylinder version, if not, it will be ...

    It's a shame there isn't more about these engines on the net, well not yet anyway

    Hi Rene,

    Yes I did do my own X3 conversion, using 5/8 rolled balled srews and nuts for each axis, and 450 oz steppers, 2:1 belt drive on the Z, xylotex ectronics for the moment until I get the new case made up for the gecko's.

    I love the mill, it fits nicely between the extremes of the x1,x2 and industrial hobbies mill. The only downfall, spindle speed, well for me atleast. I mainly use smaller cutters 3.0mm and at 2000 rpm cutting is a little slow.

    I'll get some pics of the mill up, and post a link for you.

    Hi, Pat did you know Shillings wrote a book, lots of pictures, and discussiones of engine building.
    Even if this is in German its lots to learn from pic's.
    I belive vth sells the book.

    V8 Plans

    Did you receive the plans yet? Could you direct me to the order form for this set of plans? I can't read German, but I can have the page translated. Thanks.

    PS Was it for the 2 valve or 4 valve version?

    Hi, I have received the plans. Lets say they are pretty "basic". They are for a 2 valve per cyclinder configuration, with a single carb. The pic on the site is a little misleading, but looking around on the net, people have had similar opinions.

    If this is your first engine, you will struggle with the plans, there is some detail missing. I started redrawing the components, but haven't really gotten all that far as yet.

    I got hold of my plans via a friend in germany.
