Boy oh boy, that link is annoying!
Good subject though, ilmor engineering in the UK designed a rotary vlave f1 engine which showed much promise, but was banned through legislation.
I don't know if it was a revolutionary motor, I think it just upset the traditionalists in the industry.
Which was a pity, because if it circulated for a number of years it would refined the technology of rotary valve design and given it more mainstream acceptance.
