How long are you expecting those gears to survive unlubricated at x000 RPM?

    Hi Tony,

A few years ago, I started to build a 9 cylinder 2 stroke radial that was based on Cox .049 cylinders, pistons and rods. I got as far as the crankcase and front housing, but never got much further.

It was going to use a common crankcase and crankshaft (like a 'big' 4 stroke radial) and a vane type supercharger to pressurise the crankcase. This idea was based on the Berger 2 stroke radial that was available at the time. I doubt I will ever finish that project, and now when I look back, I was probably a bit optomistic...Cox .049's were often a pain to start when there was only 1 cylinder

I think this concept has possibilities but may need some refinements. Years ago when I was a kid, I used to fly the Cox .049's and yes they can be tempermental at times. My concern is that since they are a reed valve engine, are those the reed plates behind the crankcases. The other concern is the size of the carb and air plenum. The carb seems a bit too big for the amount of displacement. I have a feeling the large size of the plenum will allow the air/ fuel mixture to slow down considerably allowing the mixture to seperate out and puddle in the bottom. An electric starter would be a definite help in starting this engine.
If it's not nailed down, it's mine.
If I can pry it loose, it's not nailed down.

Yes, my Italian is not "complete", I know a little, but not fluent. I was there (in Rome and Palermo) last year, you are so lucky to live in such a beutifull country. Where do you live?
