I am going to retrofit a series one Bport that has Boss5 hanging off it. It is my first undertaking and i don't want to sink a lot into it. I plan on using Mach to control it and am comfortable with the help I am getting from Mach forum. My question is this. Can I throw single phase to each individual SX transformer/rectifier assy and eliminate the need for 3 phase altogether?(I plan on running the spindle with a VFD). If so,how do I spec a resistor to drop the voltage down to the appropriate level.the T2 has three output voltages(60,70,or 80),depending on the output connection.I have to open the case again and see what the SX's are eating. All else on the machine seems easily wired for 125vac. Am I barking up the wrong tree here? I am trying to get this thing running for as little as possible.Once I get comfortable with this I plan on moving into a servo drive set up. Maybe into a newer iron retrofit even. Thanks for any help. Nick |

Hello Nick if you can afford it go straight in with a servo control and look at buying an Ajax retrofit kit, they are fairly easy to fit and work straight out of the box. They are also easy to program with a simple conversational programing system, and powerful with the possibilties whatever you want to machine and the system is Reliable I had one now for the last six years and it's never let me down, as long as the basic iron is good it will last you years and you can still transfer it to newer iron later knowing it's not an out of date system. Hope this give food for thought good luck in your choice Colin |
