I would normally refer you to the Heidenhain website but it`s been down for over a week.
If you call or email your nearest Heidenhain office, tech support will email you the manual and also give you direct help.
I have the 145 installation manual which touches on the format in chapter five if you want it in the meantime.
Mark.

re

attached is a program, note the exact spacing between characters, the first line, numbers required, Cr, LF after each line

watch your ascii transfer style, that will frequently mess you up. Transfer a program out of the control then back in to check it.

The Plot Thickens

Great thanks for the info, it looks more like the old EZ-CAM/EZ-MILL comms and post I am using is set up to send in the right format, but it looks more likely that it is the TNC145 side which is at fault, Is thier any way of testing the V.24/RS232 port on the TNC145 for the correct volts/signals as the prog is NOT SENT and no error msg comes up on the tnc screen just the "ready for input" and only when you dissconnect cable does it change to "Not Ready" I have checked the cable and all seems correct.

I suspect either the cable or transfer setup

will the control output a program?

Also Trying

Hi Guys,
I am also trying to upload a program into my TNC145. I finally got a program out, 953 lines, and, as Gus suggested, back in. It worked. Now I am trying to upload a simple program from Bobcad V21 and getting some different errors on the TNC. On the one where I get the first 6 lines of code, it comes up Wrong Data after 6 lines. The 7th line is an L command. I have tried different spacings, but no luck.
Stupid question time: My manual says CR is ascii 013 and LF is ascii 010 and I have to have them after each line. End of program is EXT, ascii 003. Is the Enter key the same as CR? I got no results until I deleted the first line of the program and hit the enter key, then it would upload to line 7 where I have a L (line) command and the TNC says wrong data. I'm so close, but still missing something simple. Any ideas?
Thanks!

still trying

Just did a save as *.txt file on my program file and opened it up and there are 2 spaces between lines. CR LF ? Tried to upload that and TNC didn't like it. Took out the 2 spaces and uploaded to line 7 where I have an L command.
First 6 lines are tool change and peck cycle

spacing is everything

program line spacing is critical as Gus stated above. Took me a while to take it all in. Program at machine and send to pc back and forth and starting to figure it out. Glad I did a search on this!

if you look at the program in an old version of notepad, it will show you the little symbols for lf and cr.

you may see some odd character in there

try deleting line 7, the 145 doesn't need sequential lines to upload. you can program line 768 all by itself and it will upload it. add in the line 7 in the machine, and then send it back to the computer to save it

you may find there are quirks like this, but once it is in the machine, and out again it shoould be fine.

Spaced out

Thanks Gus, will try the notepad thing and see what shows up. My line 7 error was due to spacing and missing characters: 3 spaces to Xxxxxx 5 spaces to Yxxxx 23 spaces to Rx 1 space to Fxxx 2 spaces to Mxx.
I was also missing the 0 in the RO command. I will send Bobcad a note and the sample program to see if they can tweak their post processor. Still a whole lot faster tweaking a .txt file than doing a full dwg and entering all coordinates by hand. Kinda like when I had my first Microkinetics plasma cutter with .plt files
Thanks for the help!
