Hey guys, I've been having some noise and heat coming from my varispeed head and my quill. I tore down my head and found one of the causes was a loose/worn bearing on the top part of my spindle (see picture). I can move the bearing side to side with my fingers. What is the normal protocol for removing/installing this particular bearing? How do I get the nut off above the bearing, do I use a normal spanner tool? Do I need to heat the bearing to get it off? Any help would be appreciated. |

Okay I have a few more questions... I found an online dealer who sells the exact numbered bearing I need. I ordered one (it was $50.00) and when I recieved the bearing I noticed that the bearing cover on one side was slightly dented in, and the bearing has a tiny bit of side to side play in it (equal amount of wobble to old one). This is the slight amount of play can be felt when I push and pull horizontally on the spindle without the varispeed shives attached. So my question is, does anybody know if this this particular bearing at the top of the spindle tends to have a tiny amount of play in it prior to being installed back in the head, or is it usually 100% tight out of the box when new? Secondly, can I get away with using a regular FAFNIR 206KDD bearing instead of the FAFNIR M206KDD or will this result in craptastic results. Any help would be appreciated! -Kirk |
