The milling machine table I have has a number of very annoying places where over the years end mills have crashed into the table and milled small slots etc. Most of these are about .020 or less and I am looking for advice on whether I should fix them. This is an old Boss with a new electronics. I am thinking of just setting the mill on dead slow and with a large carbide indexible end mill of just milling the table flat. This is a cnc machine so I could take a cut of a few thousands and let it take its time. I am also considering using my tig machine to fill up two holes. I can do this fast enough to not heat up the table much at all. I have not done any of the damage but every time I look at it, well, it aggravates me. Has anybody got first hand experience on this? |

| I resurfaced my table. But to keep it perfectly (a relative term) flat, I removed it and set it up on a large grinder. George

| I would tread very lightly here.... Your current problem is purely cosmetic. If you re-surface the table, and don't get it perfect (which is not easy....), you've potentially ruined a perfectly good machine. The only approach I'd even consider would be removing the table, and having it properly surface ground. This should be fairly inexpensive, compared to the value of the machine, and will almost surely give you a MUCH better result. When you're done, it should look, and work, just like the day it left the factory. Regards, Ray L. |
