BRIDGEPORT WITH EZTRAK DX

Hey everyone . I am at work and we have an Bridgeport with eztrak dx.. we seem to be having a hard drive issue. we are looking for the software so that we can replace the hard drive. the maintenace guy can't seem to find what he needs. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what steps we should take to cure the problem.. let me explain what we issues we are having. When setting X, Y locations the software stalls whiel saying "wait.. updating params" sometimes whe we turn it off to re-boot we get a hard disk failure error 80.. any help with locating the software would be ideal.. how to install it on the new hard drive would be superb.. getting the machine running correct would would be priceless

thanks for your help in advance

Bernard

EZtrak DX upgrade

Hello although I live in the UK I have just contacted Bridgeport Hardinge USA for an upgrade for a Bridgeport EZplus, which is the later version of the EZtrak, and they can supply a disc for $125.00 which I dont think is to bad it has to be a disc and not a download as it has to be bootable. Idont know whether they still do a version for the EZtrak or not but it is worth a phone call. Cheers Colin

To intialise a hard drive, you need a DOS boot disk to FDISK, and format, etc plus a set of DOS disks, and finally the machine software disk.
Why not buy a preloaded DOM (disk on a module) from EMI? No moving parts.

SO we are still not sure on our end what version of the software that we have. the software build date from what i can tell is 1992 the machine says Eztrak DX.. would this be a series I or II? i have dos 6.22 we just need to find the software to reload a new hard drive. There is a lot of great info on this board and you guys are very knowledgeable I usually hang out in the Tormach forum.. i know that we need to save the sys.bez file but if the hard drive fails completely and we are not able to download it.. am we S.O.L i have dept Sup. who will do all the owrk to get everything running if I can find the software.. can someone point me in the right direction..

thanks

A Series 1 has dovetail ways just like a series 1 standard Bridgeport. A series 2 has box ways. Series 2 has more travel and supports more weight.
In 1992, there was no DX made. they were all SX. These booted from a floppy and used 286 and 386 motherboards. But a machine of this age may have been updated so what is inside of it is a guess. Your hard drive may be good, but your CMOS setting may be corrupt. Thus the difficulty in accessing the theoretical hard drive. A good way to see this is to check the time and date. You may need a CMOS battery.
Series 1 and 2 used the same software but the travel limits in the SYS.BEZ were different. The 3 axis machine used a different version. Later software versions such as 5 and 6 supported all versions.

here is a question I havent seen or found yet.. with the current setup (electronics, motors and controllers) is ther another software that can be put on the machine other than the Eztrak software? I have a larger hard drive that i partitioned into smaller drives and was wondering if I could have a dual boot system. I know there is mach 3 and other controller software i was wondering if anything was intergratable..

thanks
