Series 1 BOSS version Identification

Just purchased a Series 1 with BOSS control (Tape Reader) How do I determine the control version?

If you would do a search I wrote an extensive response to this question already. But if you know the ERS part number it can be nailed down to even if it supports RS232, metric, etc.

Of all things, I've contacted the previous Company (who purchased the mill new,) and they are really interested in helping me. It's a BOSS 4, and they have a complete set of all manuals & service history. It was used to machine aluminum castings, and they used it up to last year, still running programs with the tape reader.

I didn't expect everything to be functional on it, so now I'm thinking of using the original drives & steppers, instead of a servo retrofit. Seems like Mach 3 & interface the original drives is simplest way to go.

Would a BTR or rs232 communication be a waste of time? The machine is so complete and original, I am a bit reluctant to start pulling parts off of it.

I'll look up the ERS to see if rs232 is even a possibility.
