| Hi DF I've been looking for a V2XT for a while and in so doing have gotten educated to a point: The SX16 is the control software/firmware that can only be used with a 16 bit ISA type mother board. The SX16 V2XT had a 286 type mother board mounted in the electrical cabinet, same as what you would find in an old 286 PC, with a FMDC controller card,(drives the servo amps for the axis), that plugs into one of the ISA slots. The DX32 is the control software/firmware that can only be used in a 32 bit ISA type mother board. The DX32 V2XT had a 386 & 486 type mother board mounted in the electrical cabinet like an old 386 & 486 PC's and had a BMDC controller card, (drives the servo amps for the axis), that plugs into one of the ISA slots on the mother board. The BMDC is the one to get, there are more 386 & 486 mother board replacements, if it goes bad, out there that the BMDC can plug into but the FMDC & BMDC is a Microsoft based DOS system and so can not be upgraded to a more modern Operating System, 2000, XP. One thing about the BMDC, it's very expensive and very hard to come by, so trying to upgrade a machine from a SX16/FMDC to a DX32/BMDC would be a challenge. I'm sure others on CNCzone are more knowledgeable and can explain it better or in more detail but that's what I know. Good luck happy hunting, Randy |
