A friend of mine is thinking of buying a 1989 Bridgeport Interact 412 with a Heidenhain control.

Can you still buy parts for this machine and is the control still supported by Heidenhain? Is this a pretty decent machine or one to be avoided? What are the pros and cons??

Any input would be appreciated.

The control is still supported by Heidenhain

As with any 20 year old machine, some stuff is available some isn't

The demise of Bridgeport means not as much is around that could be.

To me the sweet spot for age/value is about 10 years. VMC's are fairly cheap nowadays, so he might consider a newer one.

On the upside, the control is pretty bulletproof[I think it would be a 151 or 2500] and well supported.

I agree, I have been trying to talk him into a larger and newer machine and I haven't had any luck. He prides himself in being able to fix em. I will relay the information.
