    Bridgeport Needs Air?

In a quest for advice the gents in the bench top mills thread have driven me towards Bridgeport.

I posted the following there but maybe it would be more appropriate here:

Just been looking at a Bridgeport Series 2 cnc, which is plenty big enough but had an air line fed slideway lube system (i think). Being a garage based machine can this be converted into a hand pumped system?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    J.

I am sure you can hook a Bijur manual pump up to it.
You will need air for the knee as it is air assisted.
The Series 2 CNC is one of the best knee mills out there with it's large box ways.

Ok thanks for the tip, i'll check out their website.

It has an ancient textron control on it, is this control still connectable to some form of pc download software, or is it programmed line b line on machine?

    Bridgeport series 2 cnc

Hello is the series 2 cnc you relate to the one thats on ebay at the moment if so what you are looking at as the air lubrication is in fact an air mist spray coolant system, the lubrication for the slideways is fed from a Bijur automatic lubrication system that runs. Also you say about the control system it looks like a Boss 6 system or maybe the earlier Boss5, but yes you can download a program through an RS 232 connection from a PC but you can't dripfeed a large program. Yes you could maybe run it in a garage location I have a series1 cnc which was a Boss5 but I converted it to a Ajax system with servo's running from a PC control and uses a VFD spindle speed control and it all runs from single phase. I notice that you are UK based if so where abouts are you I'm Nottingham based if you want to contact me for more info please feel free to do so email address colin.wildgust@virgin.net Cheers Colin.

    Colin,

Thanks for the advice, yes its the one on ebay. If it goes for too much i'll back out.

I assume everything is upgradeable, allowing me to drip feed etc..?

My gut feeling is it will be well out of my price range..

On the other hand I may get a bargain, if so i'll be in touch.

    J.
