Hi guys, I have an alarm message coming up on my Bridgeport Int. 316 with Fanuc O-M it's alarm 2016 : "Spindle Orient Alarm". I just did a large enough batch (1000-off) of Aluminium parts, just milled a slot in them. The aluminium swarf was in pretty small peices and went everywhere. So yesterday I was setting up another job and I was getting " tool clash alarm" I figured that the photo electric switch in the turret was playing up so I opened the turret and cleaned the mass of aluminium out of it. So that alarm seems to be gone for now. The machine worked away then for a while but now I'm getting 2016 "spindle orient alarm" . I'm wondering if there's another switch or sensor that may be either covered in aluminium swarf or is faulty. Or is it something else that does the spindle orient ? Or what do you think I should do ? Thanks in advance, Mark. |

| I do not know what spindle drive you have in your machine. Do not know if you have a spindle encoder or a magnetic sensor. Never worked on your particular machine, but I would be looking inside the head sheet metal for metal shavings or anything else out of sorts. George

Thanks George, It's an encoder allright, I went in this morning and tried G84. Worked fine. So then I had a 50-off to do. Just drill and tap 2 M4 holes in each, so I thought I'd give it a go. Went very well for a while so I started thinking the encoder must be ok. Then on number 26 the magazine came out for the tool change, but the change didn't happen, and the alarm "spindle orient" came on again. Magazine is out grabbing the tool, tool is in the spindle. The spindle looks to be oriented correctly. anyway turned off the power and now when I start it up I'm getting a new alarm "Mag. 2 Not Back" . Any ideas on how I make it go back ? I suppose I may source an encoder. Thanks for the help, Mark. |

| This machine probably has a motor that moves the carousel forward and backward. Rebooting will not correct this. I know how to push the arm down and push the tool changer back. I just do not know what state the control is it. If it will push it back out. What does your operating or maintenance manual say? George
