Carousel Out of Position Error

Hello,

I have Bridgeport VMC with a Fanuc 21i control.
I am getting error 1033 (carousel out of position / fail (x5.6))
The carousel continually indexes when control is turned on.
Does anyone how to reset this or fix the problem?

Thanks in advance for any information.

YES!

This is the most common reason. The 21i control uses input and output modules. You have a failed output module (shorted) thus the motor keeps going around and around. The modules plug into a backplane. There is no need to remove every wire. The entire terminal strip pulls off the front.

There is also the possibility that a prox switch for tool 1 or tool at pocket could be flaky.

I believe these modules are about 235 dollars from Fanuc.
Old ones were rated at 3 amps. These have been replaced by 5 amp units.

George,

Thank you the information.
I took the control module out, looked it over and didn’t see anything obvious as to being shorted out or burned up. Put module back in, powered up and carousel reset and is changing tools as normal.
What do you think the chances of this happening again are? Think I should re-place the module anyway?
I had this problem about five months ago and thought I had fixed it by cleaning the prox sensors, now I'm not so sure that’s what it was.

Thanks again,
Gary

Could have been a bad connection, or a cracked board, etc. Moving the module could have re-connected what ever problem that may have existed in the case of a input. There are tiny relays mounted to the PC board in these output modules. A over current could weld a set of contacts. A manufacturing defect can also cause a sticking issue.
