| I just finished researching my newly acquired used Bridgeport series 1 mill. After noticing that I could not get the mill to slow down even on the lowest belt, I called an expert and sent him a picture of the motor. His first reaction was "WOW" you have a very rare motor. The standard motor is supposed to be 1800 rpm and your motor shows 1 1/2 horse "3600 rpm"! There are some people out there that would really really love to have a motor like this for what they do that would allow them to run with more power at higher speeds without using the larger pulley diameters (this would actually make the whole machine run quieter and be easier on the bearings). I would love to do a straight "trade" with anybody that has a 1 horse standard motor. Motor runs great, pulleys are straight and true, switch is in good working order. If anyone is interested, please contact me at brian@igotclocked.com and please include your phone number and best time to contact you. |

| I just upgraded my 1hp j head to a 2hp 56c motor. No, i'm not getting rid of the motor. I just wanted to offer my conversion experience. You have to get a step pulley with a 7/8 bore or bore your original. I opted to purchase a diecast zinc 4 step pulley from MSC. It was a huge piece of **** and required that i put it on the lathe and true up every surface. After that, it ran pretty true and i didn't mind putting it on a motor. I used an adjustable link belt so i could make it whatever length i needed. I've done tapping with it and there has been no slippage. The motor was a leeson 2hp 56c mount 1740rpm 230v 3 phase from Mcmaster. I made an adapter plate to mount on the head just like the original. In the end, the machine now has a more appropriate power for a cnc. I use a VFD and have rpm from 38-4000. If you want the program for the adapter, just let me know. |
