I am resurrecting this machine from sitting a long time and have never run it. I have documentation on the control, the parameters (a set on paper in the control) and the original basic 4 pages of the schematics. If I start the control, it goes through its start up and shows the axis letters and says axis error,, if I push the orange button the relays pull in for a second and the screen says "axis overload" and there are two columns of numbers and letters on the screen. They look like parameters. Anyone have any idea what is going on? |

We have quite a few machines with Heidenhain controls, mostly newer with 426 and 430 controls but I have seen what you are talking about. On one every once in a while it will just stop dead with a C axis fault and come up with them columns of numbers. On that one if you just shut it down, start back up and reference over all axis it starts again fine but other times on other machines it is a true fault somewhere with the axis. Sometimes from overload or a crash. I think sometimes going into MOD and entering code and getting into parameters and resetting whichever one works but you have to know exactly what to look for. Just last week we had the power go down while machine was running and when I reset it had an alarm REPLACE SPINDLE. It thought it had crashed and that same thing had happened before and luckily I had written down what the service guy told me to do to reset the parameter and it worked fine after but it's something you'd never find in the book. Hope that helps somewhat. Kevin |

I appreciate the advice from kdhBOSS5VRAM. It got me looking deeper. I found a relay in the "enable" circuit that was not pulling in. It had a little yellow pin on it and I pushed it. It was next to the red button. Anyway I could hear it click. I powered it back up and it all pulled in and the drives started! I thought I had it. Anyway in about 5 minutes the other cabinet is smoking. The component at C11 on the MT1-1 board is burning up. I got the power off. The one unusual thing is that the 2 wires to the spindle brake were unhooked and the spindle drive belt was off. Would those conditions have casued this? What size fuses should be on that board? It is part number 1551469. Can it be repaired? I have no documentation on anything in that cabinet. Can anybody help? |

| The MTI-1 board supplies the field voltage to the spindle motor. It does have a tendency to go bad. Search the old posts. I believe someone in the UK is fixing them. Are you sure all your transformers are set up correctly for your power in? George

My board did not reach the critical mass that yours did, but I bet it is the same thing. There is a resistor there that burns up. I happened to have the cabinet open and was able to get mine down before it burned the way that one did. I was able to buy a replacement resistor. The stock resistor is pretty high end and unavailable in quantities less the 250. I was able to get Newark to cross it and I got it running for about $11.00. My board did not look nearly as burned as yours does. There are places that will fully rebuild that board in the USA for $400 to $700 if I remember correctly. This all happened last spring. I will try to get back to you with the resistor number. |
