series II R2E3 error 4000 axis limits

I have a series II r2e3 that was running a month 1/2 ago. I went out to use it 2 weeks ago and can not home the machine. after pushing a couple of buttons I can only jog the x axis with the handle jog command. I can not move the Y or Z axis. I went through the books and got as far as looking for the FMDC board to check further. Where is the FMDC board? does anyone have any suggestions? thank you, cmmachine.

A alarm 4000 is a alarm 4 in the first set. This is an axis drive fault. There are red LED on the axis drives to indicate a off or fault state of each drive.
Do you have a maintenance manual? It is explained in the trouble shooting chapter.
The FMDC is hanging on the back of a door on the right bottom corner in the back electrical cabinet. It has 8 LED of different colors in indicate its state.
Are you on a phase converter?

Thank you for responding to my post,

I do have a maintenance manual. Thank you for guiding me to the location of the FMDC. I did read part of the troubleshooting. I checked the voltages on the EMC and they seemed just fine. I did look for the red led's on the drives and didn't see any of them lit. I will look for the 8 led's to check it's state. I am on a phase converter but all of my conventional machinery is working just fine.

Thank you again. Mike

Alarm 4000 on R2E3

Hi,
I have an R2E3 and I would check the battery for the memory. I had the same error on mine when I got it, replaced the batteries and all was well.

Hope that helps,
Cutmore

which battery did you replace? also where did you find the battery/batteries?
I had that feeling but hard to determine the exact problem with limited time and so many possibilities of cause.

Thanx for the help.

I replaced the batteries on the FMDC board, and there is a battery on the back of the control panel that has the lcd display. Be careful when you remove the control panel as someone said the cable can be fragile, but I had no trouble when I replaced mine.
The batteries will probably be soldered to the board.

Hope that helps,

Cutmore,
sorry if I didn't ask my question properly. Where did you purchase the batteries? I will check to see if they are solder in I had the front control open lastweek and I beleive that battery is in it's own holder.

Thank you Mike.

My batteries had been replaced with 2 AA bateries and were not soldered to the board.
You might try a PM to Machinetek for where to buy the batteries. He is the man when it comes to these machines.
One other thought, if you find numbers on the batteries you could try Newark to see if they have them.

The original battery was a lithium unit. It can be replaced with any lithium cell (3 volts).
The original is no longer available so just get a battery holder, some double sided tape, some wire and make a remote battery holder. Radio Shack has a AA lithium battery and a single AA battery holder. I have used this very recently on modern devices such as the parameter back up units on servo turrets on Doosan lathes.
