still having boss 4 trouble

Hello,
This forum is really helping me get closer to getting my boss 4 going. I still cant get it to feed, but im narrowing it down. The former owner tampered with everything-i need a maitenance manual-if anybody knows where i can
find one let me know. I checked the RCK board there is a group of switches
numbered 1-4 together in a group, what are they used for? He told me he tampered with some switches but he couldn't remember. I just want to check
out everything. The machine will rapid in set-up, it will rapid when i do A mdi
command. But when it hits a G01, G02, or G03 nothing happens, I have the spindle on, the xdi board is getting signal for the spindle interlock. But nothing happens. I can do a MDI M25 command z will rapid up and decelerate to home itsself out, everything else works. I plan to purchase Hillbilly's board
but I want to try out the drives. Also I can step the motors in .001-all increments in setup mode it works excellent! I checked its accuracy in the step mode with and indicator. If someone has any ideas I sure would appreciate it.
Thanks,
jodybo

Try machinemanuals.net for a maintenance manual on CDROM.

Try this and tell us what happens.
Move your spindle somewhere close to the middle of the table.
Zero out your X and Y by turning the switch too and pushing the xy/t1 while the mode button is in setup. This should give you a zero reading when you push both the X(5) and the Y(6) on the key pad. Now push the Z(7) button on the key pad and it should move the indicator light to Z. Select one inch on the movement switch and with the movement switch in -(minus) push it once. Your Z should move down one inch. Now the same button you zeroed out XY with turn to Z zero and push it once.
Now you should have the spindle near the middle of the table and all three xyz zeroed out.
Turn the mode switch to mdi......now on the key pad punch in this movement...
Push G 1 X - 4.000 F 05(there is no decimal so when you push the 0's it will push the 4 over past the decimal on the read out) Start/turn on the spindle. The spindle has to be on or the oiler won't pump oil on the ways and lub the machine. Make sure you have enough oil in it or the spindle will not start. Now push the blank button on the bottom right hand corner once. This is the EOB button or the "end of block" button and is your movement button when in MDI mode. Once you push that button the spindle should move 4 inches to the left of X0.
Once it stops.... now push G0 X0 and then the EOB button bottom right.
The spindle should move back to zero in rapid.
Now push the G1 X 4.000 F05......EOB button. You should get Feed rate movement on the + side of zero.
I believe the fastest your machine will move in feed rate is 26 IPM. (F260)
Any number entered larger than that will default to the max the machine will move.
Wait till your machine is done moving in any block of execution before you enter another or you will have problems.

Let us know how you make out.

Edit:The Boss 4 and 5 will work at 32 ipm instead of only the 26 ipm I previously thought.
The feedrate is programed at F2 to F320 in increments of .1 ipm

one question... does the GOTO indicator light come on when you enter in a G01-G03 code?? If so, does it stay on? (NOTE: after you disable the limit indicator, zero out, and start the spindle)

i know i personally didnt know to look at the Manual Feedrate Override knob, and once I set it at around 100% I noticed everything worked fine. Also, dont set the feedrate too low or it might be hard to notice its even moving, unless your cutting something that is.

I have no affiliation with this web page... just found it in one of my many searches and bookmarked it.

I will check this out this evening and let you know. I really appreciate your help. When I do an MDI M25 command Z axis rapids up hits the decelleration
switch then feeds to home position. So maybe there is something minor.
Thanks again,
jodybo
