I need some parts for my Boss 3

I just bought an old Boss 3 series 1. it was retrofit with fagor controls at one time, then un-retrofit. however they never bothered putting it all back together. from what i can tell, i am missing the stepping motor pulleys for both the Y and Z axis and am missing the belt for the Y axis.

if you or anyone you know has these parts send me a pm with what you have. I would like to get this thing running by thanksgiving.

I plan on using some compumotor drives that i have laying around and run mach3 with a touchscreen computer.

i am also in need of Q/C30 collets.

thank you to any and all that respond.

I think most servo conversions make use of the existing drive pulleys, I know mine did. Therefore no one has a spare set.

I still need the 13 tooth pulley from the z axis for my mill. don't know why they had to use a small pulley like that, nobody sells one that small. And the stock ones break, so there probably is a shortage. I've thought about using a 26 tooth instead, but getting the belt around the spindle looks like a real trick.

I think you should be able to buy the y axis pulley from an industrial supply house, it's a standard pulley.

does anyone have the stock specs or know where i can look them up for the pulleys? If I had that info then at least i could find some to order.

My Z axis looks like it will take a much larger pulley than a 13 tooth. so maybe they had different pulleys for different years.

i haven't found much on the web as far as parts lists or diagrams/manuals for the boss series mills at all. does anyone know where i could run across anything like that?

Thanks

thanks kevin, i would really like to get this thing operational and any help at all would be greatly appreciated. even if nobody had anything that they wanted to sell, if i could find out the pulley sizes so i could order something would be great.

i was able to find a site that showed the disassembly of a boss 3 head, with a comparison of a standard j head. it looks like i will probably just have to make a draw bar since the spindle length is a bit longer, not to mention that the nmtb30 collets have a different thread pitch than the R8.

some of the heads apparently used a 26 tooth pulley. You have to count the teeth on your x and y pulleys, you want either a 2:1 or 1:1 ratio. My x and y turned out to be H series 1/2" pitch 14 tooth pulleys like the 6495K611 from McMaster Carr

go to: http://www.mcmaster.com/ put that part number in the search, and go to the catalog page. You need to get a bushing

thanks Unterhaus!

I just looked at the mcmaster chart and it looks like the 26 tooth is probably what my machine had on the Z (4.39" diameter) i will have to double check that dimension with the scratch marks on the machine.

then i will just measure the distance center to center on the Y axis shafts (motor and leadscrew) and get the belt length.

thanks again for the help.

anyone know if somebody has already made a drawbar for using nmtb collets in the Q/C 30 spindle?

Both of my Boss 4 and 5 machines use 26 tooth pulleys.

I think mine may have originally taken a 26 tooth pulley, except the belt is too small for that. But the way the belt runs it seems to rub a bolt head. How hard is it to change the belt? Looks like a lot of work.

I bought it without any motors or pulleys, I'm reverse engineering it.
