| I want to expand my equipment with a cnc mill, currently have a cnc lathe. I located a Bridgeport Series I R2E4 but I do not even know how to check the machine out. I would like to power it up and run all axis and spindle. 1. Can anyone help with a quick step start-up process? 2. Is the main difference between the Series I and Series II the bed travel? 3. Excuse my ignorance but what Boss series is the R2E4? 4. What is the FIST log(I see this term on other posts)? Thanks..... |

| 1) I will defer to someone that has run one recently. 2) Travel is greater but the weight it can support is much more. Box ways vs dovetail. 3) Boss 9 4) an internal event log from the FMDC board as well as real time internal control events. George

I have an R2e3(Boss8) I believe the control is nearly identical with the exception of the display on the Boss9 being CRT. Step 1, Check to see what voltage the machne is wired for & what voltage you have. 2. Turn power on , machine should display all leds on front panel, Then should display enable axis and a red lightshould be on @ enable axis button. Press this button, then press the execute button & the machine should home all 3 axis. 3. In order to turn the spindle on, you turn the knob marked spindle for CW motion to right for Cw in high gear, and press the spindle start button. 4. you should now be able to press the (jog knob incr)button and jog and an axis is displayed. Then press + or _ to move the axis. Check this link for what the front panel looks like & the buttons. http://cgi.ebay.com/BRIDGEPORT-MILL-...QQcmdZViewItem Hope this helps, Cutmore |

| Thanks Cutmore, these steps should get me going. Talking about incoming power my three phase is a Delta so one of my legs to ground has a wild voltage. But from leg to leg the voltage is 240V. Will this cause a problem with the machine? How would I use the pendent wheel to move an axis? I see the Job Knob Incr button does this activate the wheel or only the +/- buttons? |

| Hi, I am not sure about how un-balanced the power can be before it effects the control, Hopefully someone else here can answer that. Hope you found that link about the r2e3 helpful, To use the handwheel, you just press & release the (jog knob incr) button untill knob is diplayed, then the handwheel will work. If the machine is at a limit, the handwheel will not move the machine. So untill you know which way + or - goes if you move the knob & nothing happens, go the other way. Hope this helps, Cutmore |
