Bridgeport servo motor repair or replacement

What is everyone doing when the servo motors go bad? I have several R2E4 series-2 and one series-1 that need motors. Since you can't buy new ones anymore does anyone have a good solution? I have had some repaired for $800.-$1,200.00 but not all are repairable. Series-2 use Sem. Series-1 use CMC or Powertron. Could I still buy the proper motors and encoders separately and connect them? This is a big problem since repair is a gamble even if the motor components are still good.

You can still get the SEM, they are made by Servo Dynamics now.

An outfit called Clarkson is also the factory authorized warranty/service center for SEM. I had some rebuilt there - pricey but good work and the servos looked and worked like new when I got them back.

I'll second that! I've had several(4-5) 10-15yr old SEM's rebuilt by Clarkson. Between Milltronics and our Bridgeport EZ-Path that both use SEM servos, Clarkson rebuilds while not cheap, are a slam dunk for trouble free service in the long run.

I look at it as a case of spending the money once or gamble on spending the money twice if not more, if a cut rate motor damages something else in its system.
