Hello, I just aquired 2 series2 r2e3 cnc mills with boss8 controls. These have sem servomotors, Has anyone converted 1 of these to Mach control? I would be interested in any info. The controls work but I want to look to the future. Thanks, Cutmore |

| I have almost completed a retrofit of a SEM servo powered bridgeport but I didnt use any of the old electronics. I stripped out all the old stuff and replaced with a rutex/mach3 setup.

| This is my toy in the factory before being delivered to my house. ![]() Looks like yours is in good condition too. My control was a heidenhein TNC 150 with a contraves spindle controller. In total I must have spent about £5,000 on new parts. The SEM motors are great and I'm using them again. The only thing I had to change was the encoders. The original encoders were analouge and modulated the signal by current rather than voltage. I've bought some replacement digital quadrature encoders from US digital but have not fitted them yet.

| Dom, Nice looking mill. Is it running now or are you still finishing up? Here is the 1 that is in the garage and the tooling. I got these for the price of having them moved to my house. I am thinking of selling the 2nd one. I am having a problem with starting the spindle and I think it is because of the rotary phase converter I am using. |

| Still finishing up. It was a far bigger project than I ever anticipated but I'm not too far off making chips now. I'm at uni at the moment with exams and coursework deadlines comming out of my ears. In july I go back home for the summer holidays so i'll have 3 months to get it working and learn how it all works! Nice home shop you have there, our garage is probably big enough but its location wasnt appropriate to manovure the machine in there. Ended up putting it in a friends barn instead. Not sure what to suggest about your spindle. My spindle motor is a 400v DC variety which will run quite happily on single phase without any phase convertors.
