What exactly does M25 do on BPT Interact?

It seems to run the spindle up to the software stop and shut the motor down, used for tool changes I think, but I can find no documentation on exactly what it is supposed to do.

M25

On my BTC it is quil orZ home by program or in MDI I use it as a quick get out of the way before moving to the tool change position or to retract the quil if you have to stop in a part and it is easy to go into MDI and get out of a tight spot after Estoping without losing your position Kevin

M25

Hi,

A STOP M25

Is normally used prior to the next tool call to allow manual tool change

I also always use m25 at the end of a program on a single tool machine as well.

IE : L XO Y 150. R F MAX M25

Will retract tool, turn off spindle then move in y150. ( sorry 6" for you imperials ;p )

Allowing me to change componant.

inspect job etc.

It also enables the spindle brake/lock on my Interact 1 Mk2.

Buy me a Beer?

Hi Swarf Rat
For correct use of M25 it is used to clamp a tool and M26 is unclamp of tool they also could be used for other uses but that would not then be industry standard and as some of the cnczone guys have said BridgePort mills used
it to send Z to home

In bridgeport machines M25 is the second ref of Z axis. This is used for ATC as well as used for clamping & Unclamping of tool from spindle in Jog mode.

I would like to know what it is really trying to do. Just recently, I re-adjusted all of the Z switches per the manual procedure, everything seemed fine, then when I did an M25 the spindle hit the + limit switch and stopped with a Gross Positioning Error D. Meaning you gotta shut off and start again.

After several experiments with different things, I discovered that M25 ignores the software limits in MP 48, and only uses the reference switch for position, which it approaches at Rapid travel (unlke a normal reference). This causes it to overrun the normal reference position by at least 9mm. I eventually set up the reference switch at 10mm+ relative to the limit switch (the manual says anything 8-10 is OK), that caused it to reference to a different place on the encoder wheel far enough away from the limit switch to keep from hitting it.

So I have to agree with the assertion that it is (or includes) a second reference.

If you run into a Gross Positioning Error D after an M25, that is something to look for.

the z axis movement is set by parameter, it will not look for limit switches & encoder marker pulse. I think your parameter setting value is beyond the end limits & unable to move the axis thats why you are getting Gross position error. Which system yours, I will try to get the parameter no.

The system is a Bridgeport Series 1 Interact with 151B control. There does not seem to be any parameter described by Heidenhain for this function, but obviously Bridgeport defined M25 and maybe used a parameter to control it?

I would be interested in anything you might know.

MP 188 does not seem to affect this. It is set to 0.000 on my machine, after an M25 the Z runs to about +7.500 (REF). According to Heidenhain, 188 affects the movement only during an M92 move.
