Hi im installing new ballscrews in my series1 and the old ball screws where pitted real bad from previous owner i was wondering i was installing the pulleys back on the screw and i noticed that the pulley is only covering half of the key. "width is .75" wide. and the handle is on the other half is this correct it just seems to me that the pulley should cover the whole key because of torque just wondering if i should shim it out and not worry about the handle or if this is correct i just dont want to screw up my pulleys . and i threw away the old ball screws geuss i should have kept them but anyway here i am John |

| When properly tightened, the nut both retains the handle/wheel axially AND it clamps the device - the clamping force and friction generated by the nut does MOST of the driving, not the key. The key provides SOME of the drive load and ALL of the circumferential alignment/timing of the handle to the shaft. The clamping of the nut does the rest. If you rely on the key to drive, you'll eventually wallow out the key slot in the handle, especially if it is an aluminum handle/wheel - we learned that lesson the hard way.... |
