    Z axis encoder

I have a fault with my BP interact Heidenhain 145 "Z axis measuring defective"
I take it this means encoder problems. the markings are ERO 115 12J DZ
ID N.R 217 900 01 SNR 417 818. I have tried carefully cleaning it but I think I may need a replacement.any equivalents or anyone have one for sale

    thanks in advance

The ERO style are usually modular through-shaft type, if you can confirm the count/rev, it looks like 900?
Renco sell a cheaper alternative. Heidenhain is probabally 3 to 4 times as much.

Usually the bulb gets a metal deposit on the inside from the filamint. Once it gets too reflective, the encoder cannot read as not enough light can get out. This is what Heidenhain told me many years ago is the most common failure. The cable could go bad as well and the counting board could fail. Just so you do not forget about those possibilities. I believe you have SEM motors anf the encoder disk is on the tail end of the armature shaft.
