Hey guys, I need to replace the spindle bearings and aluminum drive pulley for the Z axis (and the belt) on my Series I...Where can I get them? Been searching here & online & have come up short...Lots of stuff for manual machines, but it seems that the BOSS stuff is scarce...Help?!!? Thanks! -Brady |

| I haven't tried Hardridge...One thing is I do not have part numbers (can't find nary a one) on the pulley...the belt is huge by todays timing belt standards and can't find the blinkin' parts reference guide that I spent $40 on from MachineManuals.com... So...If anybody has a parts reference book, can you hook me up with the right part numbers for a Series 1, BOSS 5 with Kwik30 chuck & 4 HP spindle??? (Pretty please with a cherry on top?) I need pn's for: Z axis stepper drive pulley Z axis timing belt (for above pulley) Complete set of bearings and anything else you think I need for a proper head rebuild. Thanks!!!!! -Brady |

| The Timing Belt you need is a 300H Dayco or Gates there are many belt makers any will do the job, Some bearing supplyers will carry these belts also. This belt will fit if your drive is one to one.

| Thanks Mac. Am I correct in assuming that the spindle bearings on the BOSS Series I are the same as a standard non-CNC 2J head? I think I have part numbers for the 2J somewhere...I'd like to get the parts I need before disassembling the head. -B |

| Braid, I went through the same thing on my Boss 6. Here are the links of what I did, and what you will probably need to do. Finding a Z-Axis pulley is nearly impossible, unless you luck-up on one from a used machine. I purchased some gear stock and machined my own. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help. http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24041 http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24423 |

| Thanks Wayne! I got some ideas from this thread recently: http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showth...t=13821&page=4 I'm amazed at how little info & parts are available for these machines. They are such gems and really cheap to get into considering their capability...once you flush the original controls of course! I bet that I would be worth it to machine my own pulley stock after I get a replacement pulley in there...as I am sure there are a number of people that need these. Doesn't look like it would be hard to do with a solid round of AL and some creative toolpathing (or custom ground cutters). In the meantime, I might machine some .25 or .375" AL plate on my CNC router and then stack up & bolt the pieces together like they did in the link I just posted. -B |

| The gear stock I purchased was the correct diameter and pitch, and was an extruded piece of aluminum bar. I simply cut it to length on my saw, turned a shoulder for a set-screw on my lathe, machined a couple end plates and bolted them on. Making the pulley was the easy part. Replacing the belt will take most of a day start-to-finish if you do it yourself. Having a buddy help will speed the process significantly. Good Luck with whatever direction you decide to take. |

| Hey, I may have a piece left-over to make another pulley. I had a hard time finding the stock too; since it is an odd tooth count. I may still have the receipt / company name from when I purchased it. I will check when I get home from work this evening. |
