r2e3 with 4000 code boss8

ok to start iam not the cnc pro like most on here, so here goes...i have had my machine up and runnin for about 6 months, the machine has had few problems, but overall a good machine. i have let the machine sit for about 3 weeks and when i powered it up it was having a 2000 code set, so i did a search about it , and found that it may be a bad conn, on one of the boards. so i went and just pulled them out and put them back in just to make sure they were all plugged in good, i reset it and it did the same thing so i just wiggled them some more and the machine cleared the code and went into trying to home the machine ,(ok bad conn, but workin now)) then when i go to home the machine it had a error 4000 code about half way goin home...so i hit the rest button and the machine cleared the code , i enable the drives(which for a sec would not lock on) they start to sing , then i hit exe button and the 4000 code again. so was lost at this point. i hit the e stop then tried to home a few times, same thing ,after toggle between e-stop and enable drives the code would sometimes clear and say axis limit, which it does when homing i just have to jog the x over a lil and it would clear, but now the table will move x and y and the limit still there so i go to move the z axis and the error 4000 code came back...i then thought it was my z motor brushes worn so i then removed the brushes , they were worn some but not worn out, alot of carbon dust from the worn brushes , i took all of them out and blew some compressed air trying to remove most of the carbon dust, i then reinstalled the brushes, reset and tryed again, same 4000 code ...i then noted that when i hit the axis enable the z motor will pluse,i was going to remove the motor and clean it out a lil better, i tried to clean itone mor time on the machine on the machine again but left the encoder off and tried to enable the drives, the z motor would just spin until i e-stop, so i then thought the motor was good since it was moving, the motors have been replaced lookin at the date on them, i then searched the site agin and have not found what i need to solve my problems, i know you guys know these machines like the backs of your hands, so your help is greatly needed,i just need to know where and what to do next... thanks guys for any info, Brett

first question: is the Z belt on or off? this machine is notorious for jamming the quill up.
2nd question:Have you tried putting the encoder back on?

the z belt is on , and the encoder is on . the only time i could ever get the code to clear was to toggle between enable drives and e-stop kinda fast when the code was cleared(but said axis limit) i could jog x an y but when i moved the z it would reset the 4000 code..so thats what lead me to the z motor...all the drives are working i have not seen the fault light on them at all ...i could take the z motor an turn the motor and move the spindle down, with the e-stop on . then i would enable drives while the encoder was unpluged and the motor would just move the quill up. i have always hit e-stop before the spindle would hit the limit switch, i tired this a few times just to check th motor, does the encoder make it set the 4000 code ..also is there a trouble shooters gudie with the codes in it, i only have parts and program book... thanks again ....i also noted some oil on the board in the back...what do i do to clean these boards and connections..noticed the static warning didnt want to mess up my boards

Unhappy

ok ...today this is what i have done to the machine. i have check that all the drives move freely, i have unhooked the enconders and all the motors will just float ,they spin very slow but they turn, i removed the z encoder from the motor, and with the spindle down a lil i could turn the encoder jsome and the motor would run fine. so does that mean the motors are fine? they all move,
i have put a mirror in front of the drives so i could notice the leds while i engage teh drives, but i have not seen the leds on the drives come on . i hear the chokes engage and start to whine, but no leds , the leds on the emdc board are blinking right(maybe) , the frist two are blinking the second one is on and the last one is on , when i enable the drives the six led comes on , the first led that is blinking is a fast blink and the second one is blinkin slower. i have also tried to remove the 17 fault wire on all the drives, nothing i have jumped them to pin 20, nothing . then i measured the volts on the 17 (360/361), its right at 15v(14.7).so jumping it to pin 20 is not doing anything is it , pin 20 15v and wire 17 15v...or is this my problem...thanks again guys for you thoughts.. Brett

Brett,

Have you solved this problem with your machine? I am currently in the same boat but I can only jog the X axis and when I try Y the machine locks up.

The front panel 4000 code = "Drive Fault" check all fuses, and verify DC power to each drive.

(2000 = "Internal Communications Error")
