Bridgeport variable speed J-head rebuild (help anyone!)

I am currently in the process of rebuilding a variable speed J head Bridgeport mill. Can anyone tell me how to seperate the gear housing from the fixed clutch bracket. I can't tell how to remove the spindle bull gear. It all most looks like I need a spical tool to remove the bearing lock nut and then mabey it will all come apart. Thanks SMG

Does anyone know if there is a service manual for this machine? Or maybe some kind of tech support out there. Thanks

Interestingly, I may be embarking on this same project soon.

I did some internet searches and found H&W machine repair:

I called and spoke to a guy named Henry. He was very knowledgeable and helpful. He sent me initial instructions to get the head off, and instructions on how to check the various items which might need to be replaced. They also sell a head rebuild kit which comes with instructions. I don't know if the instructions are good, as I haven't bought the kit yet.

I just went through looking for manuals myself, and ended up finding what I needed on CD from:

From their home page click on "Products", then click on "Manuals" and "Bridgeport" from the drop down that appears. I bought the manual for the Bridgeport BR2J Series I that is on the second page for $13 plus shipping, and it appears to be what you need. The anti-piracy encryption made the PDF somewhat hard to open, it seems to not like some machine configurations, but after trying it on a couple of computers it opened and I printed it out without any further problems.

Now, to find time to actually do the maintenance.

It's not very difficult to rebuild a J or 2J head. I didn't need any special tools.
