    Smile Bridgeport Retrofit

I have a bridgeport Interact 412 CNC mill. The machine's Heidenhain control, TNC 151, is too old. So data communication for Factory Information Systems(FIS)and Part Program(PPG) up/down load capability is impossible. So I am planning to replace this old control with new pc based control.

I am considering about 2 options as a new CNC control; Centroid M 400 and Beckhoff CX1020.

The existing machine mechanicals and axis servo motors and drives are in sound condition. So, if it is possible, I would like to replace only the cnc control with new one.

As a matter of fact, I have no idea replacing with Beckhoff CX1020. My boss recommended this. Is that possible? Help me, please.

We tried to discuss the use of existing servos with Ajax (Centroid's DIY arm) retrofit. They took a rather strong position AGAINST the use of their servo amps with existing servos.

According to the guy I talked with at Ajax at the time, they had too many problems trying to integrate their control to a god knows what condition used servo motor. Don't be surprised if they want to sell you new motors.

Centroid's position on using existing motors (it is in one of them, sorry but I forget which one) was outlined in one of the following:

I suggest the CX1020 solution, but I am little biased. I can help immensly on your CX1020 issues. I am building a CNC router for test and training purposes and will be using varios BECKHOFF controls to control my machine, including the CX1020. Feel free to post your questions or cantact me directly.
