| What do i need to do to the head of my V2XT to remove the spindle. I know how to remove the set screw and remove the cap off of the bottom of the spindle but does anything need to be done up in the head before removel? I need to replace spindle bearings. Thanks Mike |

| Just tap it out! If you have a power draw bar, remove that and the drawbar, it makes it easier. George

| I pulled a good pair of spindle bearings out of another bridgeport i had to swap with the bad V2XT bearings. The v2xt has sealed bearings and the other bearings are open type that get oiled. I packed the open bearings with wheel bearing grease for cars. I figure the lower end of the spindle will hold in the grease and i made a delrin cap and pressed it over the steel spacer sleeve to retain the grease on top of the top bearing. I also packed grease in between the 2 bearing spacer rings on the bottom of the spindle. I put the hole unit in the mill and ran the spindle and it got worm in 1 minute at 1500rpm? It got very worm a 3000rpm. I removed the spindle and retightend the top nut till it was just snug. I put it back together and it got hot in 30 seconds at 4000rpm. Where is the HEAT comming from, what am i doing wrong? The bearings have no drag on them other than the pull of the grease, is the grease the problem? It cost $700.00 to rebuild and i've been out of work for 8 weeks, no money. How do the pro's rebuild spindles? thanks Mike |
