(Bridgeport w/ Heidenhain) Yellow Power Button Failure

I have a Bridgeport with a Heidenhain T151 controller that has been sitting out in our shop ever since I started at my job, and I have on occasion tried to get it up and running. First I turned it on and it said that the memory batteries were dead, so I gave up (no book, no info). Then I got the book, dug in and found the batteries (3 AA's in the front of the controller). Replaced the batteries and started it up. Took me a while to figure out how to get it to cross the X-Y-Z axes properly and ran into an issue with the X travel starting about 1.5" off of the limit switch, moving to the positive most limit and stopping, then allowing around 1.5" of overall X travel.

Most recently I got the code from the Heidenhain manual to allow me to override the soft limits and tried that, first I ran the normal limits, same 1.5" x travel issue (limit switches are not stuck, click properly, etc) then plugged in the code. Figured it had already set the limits and was not working. Turned it off and then later back on and now the yellow power button that enables power to the X/Y/Z motors & spindle does not work. I need to fix the power issue first as without input of the limit switches the comptuer will not let me do anything else (not even practice with the controller conversational code).

After that I need to determine the problem with the X axis, but all of my options there are barred if I can't get power to the main portion of the mill. I have opened the electrical case on the side of the machine and checked the fuses in the transformers and also reset (pushed them, but no audible click) the circuit breakers.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

Another thread gets close...

http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showth...t=Power+Button

This guy had a similar issue to my limit switch problem (not the yellow power enable issue). I also removed the covers on the X & Y and ran them by hand off of the limits, but now I can't get the power to kick on to test that solution and/or the resetting of the three overtravel circuit breakers.

Thanks for your help.

OK, you replaced the batteries. Did you do that with the control ON? If not you lost all the parameters. Does it come up in German? I did not read that you re-entered the parameters.
The yellow push button switch latches a relay if the emergency stop requirements are made and 24 VDC is present. This means no axis in limit (or stuck switch- just because you backed it off you should still check it with a meter), no overloads tripped, etc. Look at this string in the schematics and follow it with a meter.

I did both. First I replaced the batteries with the machine off, second (much later in desperation) with it on (OUCH!) But I did find the list of prior parameters and typed it all in (mildly boring task). I am now very curious though... my X & Y are off the limit plungers, but the Z is most likely at the limit switch. How can I jog the Z without handle control. This is an Bridgeport Interact Series 1 btw...

I have also downloaded all of the other manuals from Heidenhain and got the parameter listing so that I can go back and make sure that they are set correctly other than just a big laundry list of numbers to punch in.

So I suppose I need to know how to get the Z off the limit switch, test and then test the individual limit switches if that does not remedy my issue.

So I got it to work...however, I do not believe that the Z overrun (to the breaker) is working properly, as I did the settings on the Z, X & Y axes and it worked. I then did a full table jog on the X & Y, hit the limits, moved to the Z. down to the limit, up to the....yeah.....Gross Overrun on the Z, and it moved FAST. Now my Z is stuck in the up position. Edgefinder in the collet. Any suggestions for unfreezing this crashed beast. Am I entirely done on this thing?

Good news, got the Z unfrozen (wasn't that difficult actually), and I've got the machine to operate decently (basic procedures). But I think it would be best if I go through the parameters one by one and make sure that they are set adequately as the listing I had I am not entirely trusting at this point. Z jog handle operates at max in the up position and at the feed rate in the down position, etc...

I also need to set the soft limits, etc. Now that I've got it where it is working to some extent I'm going to be patient (my first mistake) and do one step at a time until the machine behavior (and my own) are trustworthy.

Thanks again for the help. I'll probably be back to discuss more as time goes on. Between now and then I have a lot of reading to do, need to clean the machine thoroughly (2-3 years of mild to non-use), and check the each of the limit switches with the multimeter.

Griffithbuilt, I have the same set up (Interact1 with TNC151) and have attached my list of (working) parameters - don't forget your backlash will be different)
