I just bought a Bridgeport Boss 9 that had been off power for about two years. Had two change voltage from 480 to 240 volts. turned on the power and everything worked fine. We were in the process of checking everything out when the z axis motor began to whine and get very hot. I put the machine in jog mode and moved the quill a little and the motor quieted down. It will move up and down but it sounds very rough and causes a drive error. This will reset but reoccurs with use of the z axis for a few minutes. The motor has a bad smell and is shot for sure. Do you know of a source for repair or replacements and do you think the drive may also be bad. Is this a servo or stepper motor. Help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks: Andy |

| You did not say if this is a S1 or a S2 machine. The S1 had powertron motors. The S2 had a SEM motor which are repaired by Clarkson near Chicago. Yes they are DC servo motors. You may have a home switch or axis drive board problem as well. It sound like the motor went into an oscillation as if the gain was too high. George

| Must be a series 1 it has powertron motors. I have an operaters manual do you know where I can get a maintenance manual. Will the motors and cards from a Boss 10 work on this machine, They are the Sem motors, The cards look the same. Is this a good time to consider a retrofit. Thanks: Andy |
