| Good Day Gentlemen, I recently acquired a very low mileage Bridgeport BTC-I (S/N 377, IMC-358) configured for 460VAC and have the intent to make it operation in its original configuration. It currently resides in Maryland, equally spaced between Washington, DC, Baltimore, and Annapolis. She was such a pretty looking (not so little) thing, not a malicious mark on her, and it came with such sweet story. Original system drawings were in the door compartment of the power cabinet. Yellowed and frail, I whisked them off for photocopy to preserve the information – good clear prints and great PDFs. It only took a few moments before I realized I needed much more information. So I took the usual route to eBay to purchase a BTC Maintenance Manual. What I received was a double password protected CD of copier scanned images of the, M104, Maintenance Manual for the BOSS 7.2 Tool Changer without cover. Which brings me to the point of this introductory note. HELP! A kind fellow on the forum, JB, responded to an earlier call and helped to point me in the right direction, but without copies of legible documentation, the ole girl will never run in her current configuration. Please, if you have clean copy of any manual of any type, a service bulletin(s), or anything whatsoever specific to the BTC-1 respond to this thread or email me. My intent is to photocopy your copy and setup a library. If you have softcopy, great!; otherwise I am willing to a advance security deposit while I borrow your materials for copy. If you are, say, within 200 miles of DC, I’ll come to you. Since the previous owner “lost” their documentation, I believe it permissible under copyright to copy for owner use. I’m fairly new to CNCzone and am to trying learn my around and where everything is located. Not even sure how to join the BTC clubhouse. It appears that you can embed links and small files but I can’t find an archive area. From references in the tool changer document, am aware of the M147 Installation Manual, M164 BTC Operator Manual, and the M165 Series1 Programmers Manual, and a M167 describing the voltage strapping. Any response will be much appreciated. In the mean time, I’d like to get started flushing the lubricant and check the air systems. If anyone has recommendations on the proper solvent use, to avoid damage to gaskets and such, together with the preferred ports of injection and drain, it would be helpful to ensure I do no harm. Thank you for time, - Dan |

| Dan I asume that you have made it home with the machine and did not have to disconect any of the wiring. Since I started this thread I have met a great group of people with the same afliction as my self{old machines that still work but arn't $$$$$$ } I have extra copys of all the manual's aswell as two part's machines also I have some factory service buliton's . If you would Email me I will help you the best I can I could loan you the book's To get started I shouild be able to send the voltage converson info 460-230 is the easy one you will need the heater strip's for the main contactor they are avalible from MSC I Think Joslin Clark $25.00 or so You need a large phase converter If that is your power source they don't like voltage drop's. | Daniel, You have a very nice looking specimen in original, almost new looking condition, clean it up and start making chips, you will be amazed at what this old dinosaur will produce. We have two and use almost daily making chips, there is a utube video some where. If you have trouble with the electronics I may be able to help good luck Jon P. |

Update. A kind sole, and member of the BTC club (Chip P.), has helped with the manual situation by loaning me his collection. I now have the Contraves Maintenance Manual for the NC400 Series drives, the Bridgeport M168 (Maintenance), M167 (Installation), M165 (Programming) , and M164 (Operatration) manuals. Although I do not have a copy, I believe the M166 to be the Tooling Manual, of which I have several drawings. That’s more than enough to keep me busy of awhile, but if anyone has other manuals or bulletins for the BTC, I sure would appreciate the opportunity for making a copy. All of the data is readable and in soft copy and is available to club members; just email a request. I hope to have the old gal up and running by mid to late summer so if anyone has any of the 35 tooling or suggestions where to find them, I would appreciate a email or call Dan at 310.830.0272. The next big step coming up is bringing up the Contraves. I sure would like to talk to someone familiar with the servo specifications and waveforms at key test points in the NC414 drive amplifiers. Perhaps a copy of your test notes, etc. Regards to all... |
