I just picked up a Grizzly flavor X2. Get her all cleaned up, but I am attempting to remove the chuck to use a collet and end mill, but I cannot seem to loosen this drawbar for the life of me. I inserted the locking pin and I am attempting to loosen the drawbar, but this thing will not budge? Is there something I am missing? Thanks ahead for any help. |

| Ok an update. After a good bit more force and some WD-40 I was able to loosen the drawbar. Now the arbor will not come out. I unscrewed the drawbar and have given it quite a few wacks with a soft hammer and nothing. I assume its stuck in the taper pretty good since the drawbar was SO tight. Any ideas? I dont want to hit the drawbar to hard in fear of missing up the thread. |

| I was one of the first to buy one of these. I use a brass hammer I made for striking the drawbar, and I lock the Z-axis gib before striking the drawbar, so there is minimal impact on the Z-axis ways. That's the little angled handle directly behind the three handled quill feed, between the gib adjusting screws. I only back the drawbar out about 1/8" so there is maximum thread engagement. Solid arbors have no flex, like collets, so they don't need as much drawbar tightening as collets... not your doing on this issue. But solid arbors tend to hang in there tighter, requiring a little more knudge. You might also try light taps with a brass drift on opposite sides of the arbor where it exits the spindle... not enough to distort any metal or damage bearings. That may help jar it loose. |
