    Siemens Spindle Drive

Need some help in finding a replacemnt for a Siemens 6SN1135-1BA12-0DA0 spindle drive. It seems as though this model is hard to come by. Is there another Siemens drive that is a replacement or could be used as a replacemnt with some minor modifications. Tried to get the folks at Siemens to answer the question and they indicated there was a solution but won't give the specifics.

You have one of the most unreliable Siemens spindle drives ever built.Even dropping a phase on the early ones destroys the ER unit.
There are often new in the box boards for these units on ebay.co.uk,they are a lot cheaper now than when I first needed them.
The problem with replacing it is it will be hard to match a competitors drive with the existing motor.
    Cheapest option is probably repair.
My experience of Siemens is that they will give you options and specifics but they will be Siemens ones and you can`t expect much else.

No actually I have two of them. You are right if we don't shut them down when a thderstorm rolls through, there goes another ER module.

I have been all over ebay and the web and can't find that exact part number for sale anywhere. I was hoping that someone could tell me another Siemens number, perhaps a newer version that replaces it. Like with the ER modules there are 3 different part numbers that will work with the only difference being the version number.

As far as it being cheaper to have it fixed, the quote I got today was just over $4k.

$4k is a serious amount of money, but not a lot when you start talking about this stuff.
I had a look on ebat uk and only plccenteruk has an 1135 listed but the second lot of numbers don`t match. They want roughly $5500 plus shipping.
You need to get into the Siemens website and download the info for this part.Their site is a disaster to navigate but worth gritting your teeth and keeping going.Usually the last digits of the part number are newer revisions but I`ve always found them backwards compatible but you must check.
ISTR the buss voltage on these is 600vdc so you need to be very careful. Are you running 1FT7 motors with these?
If you are you will have problems matching a new drive of a different make and it will cost serious $`s.
If you have no joy finding the info for these I might have something at work but I`m currently housebound convalescing so may be a while.
The other thing is,on these early units that were prone to phase failure problems Siemens finally after several years admitted there was a problem and brought out an add on that senses the phase voltage dropping and disables the drive before the ER blows up.It`s a long time ago and they may be obsolete too now.
ISTR Siemens were forced to stop repairing the early versions because a supplier stopped manufacturing one of the components and the only alternative they could source would not stand up to the 11Kv flashover test they apply to repaired units.
Something that may be worth considering is contacting IES in England who has a reputation as a first class repairer of this stuff and gives a twelve month warranty which he stands behind. He`s not the cheapest but all the repair guys I know speak highly of him.I have no connection whatsoever to him.

Thanks gridley51 that's some good Information. I had a service guy for another product take a look at it and he tells me the module that the magic smoke escaped from is the 6Sn1121 which mounts inside the 1135 cabinet. Now this makes me wonder what the repair outfit quoted on.

Going to look for the 1121 module and see what I can find.

Sounds as though you have considerable knowledge about the 611 drives. Any chance I could call you and pick your brain on this problem?

I have a lot of Siemens knowledge because their drives are a constant thorn in my side as regards reliability.Siemens build great, possibly the best cnc controls, can`t say the same about their drives.I have old 6RA and 6RB`s running here with very few problems, the 6SC610`s are a bit problematic and the early 611`s were a downright disaster.I got caught once with a 611 and ripped the two I had out. These were axis drives.
I`m in Scotland by the way but you can PM or email me.
Edit:Here`s a couple on UK ebat.

Unfortunately, I don't know, what the first code 1135 means, the 2nd code is for single or double drive module and the 3rd represents the amps.
In my machine the modules have 1123 for the first code. They look identically, but who knows, if the controlmodul runs although it has the same connector.

I would call Siemens in Germany, if anyone knew, which drive you can use at replacement, than the Siemens boys in Erlangen.
